Three decades ago radiotherapy was believed to be a dying discipline. However, the beginning of the 21st century brought about an unexpected revolution that has made radiotherapy one of the most rapidly developing branches of oncology. The core of modern radiotherapy is multidisciplinarity. It integrates medicine, medical physics, radiobiology, bioengineering, materials technology, informatics and many more. The examples of latest innovations include biology-guided radiotherapy, alpha particle radiotherapy, MR-linear accelerators, ultra-high dose rate FLASH radiotherapy, 3D bolus printing, stereotactic techniques, AI-based treatment planning, and the use of machine learning in contouring.
