The course presents the topics corresponding to physical principles of operation of optoelectronics elements and their wide applications in various kinds of systems. At the beginning the students become familiar with wave propagation in optically confined structures and coupling and decoupling of electromagnetic waves. The comparison of transmission of optical and electrical signals is discussed. In the second part, the optical switching, memory elements, fundamentals of nonlinear optics and special optical fibers, are described. Next optoelectronics systems, the telecommunications fiber and non-fiber systems are presented. Finally, the optoelectronics systems in medical and military apllications, are discussed.
